Old Collegians Rugby Union Club

Note from the President, 1977

From Edition No 8 76/77, Dated 6/6/77, Hon Editor: J.J. Allport, 20 Randolph St, Parkside 5063.

THE PRESIDENT WRITES:

It is not often I interfere with the Rugby committee or indeed make comment on the playing of the game. But my comments in this newsletter are not directed against the committee but in support.....training ATTENDANCE is, to say the least indicative of the interest players have in the club -.out of a playing membership of over 80 seniors, a club record low was made last Tuesday night when 18 people, including six under 18s, turned out for training.

The Club Coaches. are, to say the least, completely disillusioned with the attitude of players, and I would suggest very strongly to all players that they make a far better effort to attend training twice a week if we wish to retain one of the finest Rugby Union coaches in Australia.

The good news is that our under 18s coach, Brian Douglas, is getting full attendances at training on Wednesdays, and this is reflected in their enthusiastic and ever improving standard of play.

It was one of the great evenings last Saturday, when over 30 Old Time players attended the match and had drinks after the game at the Clubhouse. Old Collegians is now into its 40th year of existence and we had the great pleasure of having two of the foundation members, George Huxtable, and Colin Runge, (who is an ex club President) with us. There were many famous names and the numbers of games played in retrospect were innumerable. We sincerely hope that this is more than once a year for these blokes and that we see them every Saturday - many thanks to Len Perkins and David Featherstone for organizing this great get together.
