President's Report 1987
From the Tregenza Times of 16 September, 1987
THE END OF ANOTHER SEASON
The 1987 rugby season ended a little prematurely for OC's last Saturday when the 3rds and 4ths lost their preliminary finals following losses by the 1sts and 2nds in earlier final rounds.
When teams don't make the Grand Finals the question why is always asked by Club members which then leads to numerous discussions and debates. Was it associated with attitude, commitment, resources, management, philosophy, recruitment, tactics etc., etc., etc.
I believe at this time of the year members should reflect on the past season to develop constructive ideas and strategies to strengthen and maintain OC as a premier Club. I also believe that members should reflect on the Club's achievements through the season and use these as well as a base to maintain OC as a major force in S.A. Rugby. Although premierships are the flagship of the Club, do not let us overlook the fact that this year we did run five senior and five junior teams in the Club. Of these, four senior teams and four junior teams made the finals - in other words, the Club provided the opportunity for more people than ever before to play rugby at a high level.
For this achievement I wish to sincerely thank the coaches, team managers, Club selectors, players and members of the Management Committee for their commitment to Rugby and to the Club in 1987 and the supporters, a most important side of any sporting club.
I look forward to finishing the 1987 Rugby season with you all on Grand Final day at our traditional Bailey B.Y.O. chicken and champers luncheon followed by a meal at the Club that evening and at the Presentation Dinner on 25 September
