Old Collegians Rugby Union Club

Hartley Elliot Brimelow MM 1919-2001

Hartley was born in Australia but at the age of two moved with his family to England.

When World War II came he joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He had a distinguished military career, becoming a Regimental Sergeant Major at the age of twenty one.

He was awarded the Military Medal for saving the life of a captain while serving in Burma.

After the war he returned to Australia and worked for Actil, becoming General Manager. His sporting interests included long distance cycling and, of ourse, rugby. He and his wife Ruth worked tirelessly for Old Collegians where he was a team manager for five years. In 1967, a premiership year, he became President of the club.

In his retirement he lived in the Adelaide foothills and pursued one of his life long passions - bonsai.

He is survived by wife Ruth and children Anita and Ian.
