Old Collegians Rugby Union Club

Owen Clark

Owen Clark joined Old Collegians in 1979 and played in all grades, but largely 2nd Grade over the following 5 years, until early 1984 when he was transferred back to Sydney with his job.

Owen played mainly Flanker or No. 8, but when short also played in the Front & Second Row, all 78kg of him. He played in the 2nd Grade premiership side of 1981, and then captained the wooden spoon 2nd Grade side of 1982.

In 1981 he scored a total 22 points, being more than anyone else in the club.

In 1983 after nearly retiring he was honoured to be Club Captain, the year when the 2nds were beaten by Brighton 9-3 in the Preliminary Final, his last game for the club. Owen played then with Richard Waddicor and has noticed that many of the players from then now have their sons playing. His last visit to Adelaide was in 1998 when they took their eldest son, who supports SA during the Cricket season (born in 1983 in Adelaide) to visit his birthplace.

When he left the Club he felt there was little recognition or encouragement for Goal Kickers in any grade and as he loved Goal Kicking felt an annual award for goalkicking/pointscoring was warranted and donated a trophy which later became a perpetual trophy.
