Old Collegians Rugby Union Club

Derek Robertson

From the "Old Collegians Rugby News", 26th April 1962

"Derek has a background in Rugby which is almost hereditary, as his father toured with the 1924 All Blacks, the famous "Invincibles", who played 30 games in the U.K. and France and won them all, a record which has never been equalled by any touring side from any country.

Derek's father was second full-back in the side. The first was the immortal Maori, George Nepia.

Derek has played for Canterbury University, Otago University and Dunedin Pirates, all famous N.Z. Clubs, and while in Sydney he turned out for Manly.

In 1956 Derek played for Canterbury Province in a team which defeated the Springbok tourists 9-6."

From the "Old Collegians Rugby News", 16th May 1962

"The State selectors have announced that the Captain of Old Collegians First XV will be Vice-Captain of the State team to play the Yawata team on Staurday next, 19th May."
