Subject: Hall Of Fame Awards etc
Hello Paul
My name is Jonathan Burgess [ son of Bob ] and was pleasantly surprised to discover this website and congratulate you on your efforts.
Good to hear the Hall of Fame awards which Sean Beaton and my father received awards for their contribution to South Australian Rugby Union.
I had a laugh at some of the photo's from days gone by, especially the grand final selection of Bob and Mick Guerin looking somewhat drowned and topless.
I believe dad may have won the b & f in 1974 but get a couple of amber fluids in him then you may be able to drag some more OC history out of him.
Having lived interstate and OS for quite sometime I will continue to look at your website, results suggest a good final series is ahead and I hope to make the journey from Melbourne this year.
Kind Regards
Michael Cosgrave

Dear Paul
Hello, I trust you are well. I have just been perusing the OC web pages and note that in the history of the juniors it doesn't feature the first junior victory for the club which was the under 12's in 1995. As proud as I am to have been involved with that premiership victory, the greater issues are that it was the start of a golden period for the Club juniors when several OC junior sides starting winning on an every year basis, the Under 16's leading the way.
Prior to 1995 the OC juniors sometimes made finals but were always regarded as the easybeats. Brighton and Burnside were the two dominant clubs and Onkaparinga was emerging. 1995 changed that dramatically as Burnside couldn't field junior sides regularly from that year and Brighton declined from the dominant force they were.
An extension of the successful '95 Under 12 team victory was that a number of them went on to represent Rugby well at senior level. Dominic Cosgrave, Charlie Sheppeard, Peter Cross, Lee Remeck (sic) and I'm sure there are others.
For what it's worth to those who remember him, OC junior Liam Cosgrave turned 18 this year and played full back for the TSS 2nds in the very competitive Brisbane GPS competition. Both the TSS Firsts and Seconds went through the season undefeated. Liam had a good season in both attack and defence and scored in most games. He is attending University of Queensland in 2008 and will turn out for that Club in Colts.
Regards to all
Sincerely
Michael Cosgrave

Hello Paul,
My father David Jacobs played with Old Collegians during the 70's. He played in the Div 1 Premiership team of 1971, and coached the Reserve Grade Premiership in 1975.
My dad is turning 60 years old this year and I am putting together a "This is your Life" style DVD slide show of old photographs and favourite songs from his past. This DVD will be played at his birthday party later in June and given to him as a gift, from my two sisters and I (who used to roll down the hill and play in the mud in the centre of the oval at half time). I have found your web site to be a fantastic source of information and I would like to complement and thank who ever has spent so much time compiling it. My father has such fond memories of the time he spent playing and drinking with his mates at the Old Collegians Rugby Club, and I think he will be so excited to see some of the archival photographs and records I discovered on your web page.
I was wondering if you have a recording of the Old Collegians Club Song "We are the Old Collegians etc etc" that I might be able to get hold of, to include in my DVD. It would be the perfect backing song to accompany the Old Collegians photographs. And, if by any chance you know of any 'old fellas' still hanging around the club from my dad's era, who would like to send a birthday cheerio, that would obviously be fantastic. (Or better still, they are more than welcome to come along for a birthday drink and say g'day in person.)
I can be contacted on this email address, or by phone during office hours on 8223 5013, or after hours on 0411 481 331.
Many Thanks,
Vicki Jacobs

Hi Vicki
It's always great to hear from past Collegians! We're very glad our website was of some use and pleasure to you and your Dad.
There are a number of gentlemen from the photos who are still around the club fairly often. We have a home game this weekend so I will pass on your details to as many of them as I can track down during the course of the afternoon. I have in mind Bob Burgess, Peter Allen, Doc Douglas, Dean Earle and Ian Hackett.
And, of course, should your father ever care to renew his acquaintance with us, the Old Guard on the balcony can always use another voice to shout advice to the current generation of players. We are reliably (and often) informed by the said Old Guard that your father's generation of players were faster, fitter, stronger, tougher, bigger drinkers and much better looking than young blokes today.
You will probably have come across our video renditions of the current club song. If I can persuade a few of the guys this weekend, I will have them sing the old club song for the camera. It would be great addition to the website quite apart from being useful to you! Thank you for the idea!
Kind regards
Kim Evans
President - OCRFC
PS the kids still roll down the hill and play in the mud. Thankfully, some things never change....

Dear Kim/ Paul,
Thankyou so much for your enthusiastic response and your help. We are very excited, dad is going to be so happy.
The party is going to be a casual affair and I am more than happy for you to post the details of the party on your web site/ newsletter or at the club, in the hope that some of dad's old mates, 'The Old Guard', might see it and either send a Happy Birthday telegram, or better still come along for a birthday drink (and perhaps sing the old club song in person!).
According to my mum (who is no longer married to my dad), every one of the gentlemen you mentioned Kim, were all very good mates of my dad. If any of them would like to come to the party it would be the most wonderful surprise and would absolutely make my dad's day!
The details of the party are:
Saturday 23rd June
The Hope Inn, 348 Port Road, Hindmarsh.
2-5pm

Subject: WISHING TO CONTACT ONE OF YOUR PLAYERS.....
Hi Paul!
My name is Sandi Ash and I am a Sports Trainer with the Harlequin Rugby Club in Melbourne. I have been hoping to contact one of our former players who, I believe is now with Old Collegians. The player in question is Andrew Farquharson. Just wondering if you would be able to perhaps give me an email address (or something along those lines) or if you could please pass my details on to Andrew for him to contact me.
Hoping that you can help reunite me with an old clubmate!
Regards

Hahahaaaa! I'll tell that one to one of his other old mates over here! We all know that Andy couldn't get fat even if he lived on MACCAS! Great to see that he's doing so well over there!
He'd need more than a DATSUN THINGY to cart home all those awards from last year, haha!

Have just been reading through your web site and noted mention of my husband Tony Jubb. Tony played with Old Collegians when we lived in South Aust, represented South Aust in 1966 (I think a trip to Perth)
Tony passed away in Feb, 2004.

Hi Paul
I was talking to another longstanding club member, Howard Clay, the other day and he asked me what was happening. He drew a blank. Those few of us who live on the NZ side of the ditch would like to know what is being planned to mark the event. We could even be tempted to come over!
Thanks

Subject: getting old
hi paul
just a quick one to thank you for your stirling (pun intended) efforts in keeping old blokes informed of old col happenings. i've got to be old now and retired from the fields of education a couple of weeks ago. which sort of brings me to the point of this missal which is indeed a change of contact address to dquodling@bigpond.com.
now i'm doing sort of bugger all except tending a paddock full of wine pills that noone wants to buy and i'll probably have to stomp and drink myself, i hope to find the time to knock out a few memories of the halcyon days of the 60s when we were faster, tougher, bigger and etc etc.
i was just stiff enough to see the two final sessions of the adelaide test from my mate's corporate box....could have been quite distressing for a pom1
and also have a happy festive season.
regards
