News 1977
Ladies Committee:
In 1977, as in prior years and in some years to come, the Ladies Committee dominated, although they were not preoccupied with social issues.
The 1st meeting of the 1977 Ladies Committee was on the 7th February 1977 and comprised:
Barrie Dawson:
Issue no. 3 76/77 of the Newsletter records the farewell speech of Barrie Dawson:
"I would like to thank Dinny Farrah for all his work in organising my farewell, Matthew Quinton for pulling the mike out, because I hate making speeches, Timmy Farrah for his pith helmet, Bob George for all the beers he has served me, and thank you Old Collegians for six very happy years. I will always cherish the memories."
Car Trial
Issue no. 6 76/77 4th May 1977:
Despite a poor attendance, the hardy souls who spent last Sunday morning cursing Jeremy Allport as they lost themselves between Adelaide and Kapunda, all finally arrived at David Quodling's and had a pleasant afternoon drinking all the grog that was meant for twice their number.
The Club Secretary is not to be trusted following this event as he used a very underhand method of cheating and so after much debating as to who won, the judges took Malcolm McQueen's story as being the most truthful.
The wooden spoon was an easy prize to award, all we had to do was wait 8½ hours for the team of John Douglas and Lionel Managey who arrived in a cloud of oily smoke via Victor Harbor, Mannum and no doubt a few other places as well.
On the Social Scene:
In the newsletter of the 10th August 1977:
We welcome the following new members and wish them a long and rewarding association with the Club:
Don Smith, Patrick Marshall, Patrick McCarten, Rick Rynner, Don Dickson.
Miss Old Collegians:
At the S.A.R.U. Ball last Saturday we were well represented in the Miss Rugby Union Quest which was won by Miss Brighton.
Pam Goodwin represented Old Collegians and looked superb.
Many thanks to Chris Fricker for the 'preparation of Miss Old Collegians and to Carol Oliver for giving her time on Saturday morning to do Pam's hair. Many thanks to all concerned.
Jill Allen:
"I would like to express my thanks to all wives, girlfriends (and guys) who were involved in preparing and serving the excellent meals at the Club on behalf of the Rugby Union during the past two months. Although the season is not completed I would also like to acknowledge my appreciation (and that of the males) of the support given to the Ladies Committee in particular to those who have so readily organised and helped with the meal, bar and pie rosters."
Hatches and Matches Dept.:
