TRY RUGBY
TryRugby is the Australian Rugby Union's six-week sports program for boys and girls aged 5 to 16 years.
It's a way for young players of all abilities and Rugby experience to enjoy the game at their own pace.
Players develop general and Rugby-specific sport skills in a fun, safe and welcoming atmosphere.
Running TryRugby centres throughout regional and suburban Australia has been made possible from the profits generated by the 2003 Rugby World Cup.
Try Rugby starts Friday 17th March at 5.30 pm.
SAPSASA RUGBY
Old Collegians hosted more than 90 local primary school children for a rugby day recently.
Over 30 primary schools across eight zones have registered for SAPSASA Rugby.
Jason Harding of SA Rugby has coordinated the program, which is one of the biggest primary school-based rugby competitions ever held in South Australia.
Thanks to Will Sadler, Jason Leonardis, Henry and Tom Nutt and Harley Janssen for refereeing and assistance with the SAPSASA Gala Day last week. Without their help, it would not have been possible (and they all had to take the day off school!).
The competition will culminate in the SAPSASA State Championships to be held at Hindmarsh Stadium on Wednesday 10th May 2006.

Final Wallaroos team announced for Women's Rugby World Cup
The 26-player Australian Womens Rugby team - the Wallaroos - has now been finalised for the 2006 Women's Rugby World Cup to be held in
Edmonton Canada .
Selectors had the tough job today of cutting ten players from the squad that was chosen after the National Women's Championship at Macquarie University .
One girl who didn't miss the cut was Lito Fata from the Burnside club in Adelaide .
She becomes the first South Australian to ever be selected in a touring Wallaroos team.
The players will now return to their home states to undergo further training before going into camp in Sydney on 22 August.

South Australia has won the right to host a globally prestigious International Rugby Board Sevens World Series for the next five years, Premier Mike Rann has announced today.
Adelaide will become one of eight cities across the world where the annual international 16-team series is played, with Adelaide's first two-day rugby festival to be held in April 2007.
National and State Rugby Union officials Gary Flowers and Rob Nelson and Australian Rugby players joined Premier Rann and Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith for today's announcement.
Premier Rann says it is a major sporting victory for the State and is expected to generate up to $6 million in economic benefit, attracting visitors, players and officials from overseas and interstate.
"This is the latest in a string of sporting wins for our State, which includes the AFC Women's Asian Cup (soccer) this month and a Socceroos versus Lebanon qualifier match in August.
"And it comes hot on the heels of our commitment to inject $16 million to refurbish our world famous sporting venue Adelaide Oval, where the event will be held.
'securing this event is an important step in our goal to develop a full-year calendar of sporting, arts and cultural events to attract more visitors to our State.
"Events like these help to fill our hotels, restaurants and shops during the traditionally quieter winter months and give us a chance to beam our State's 'brilliant blend' around the world.
"The IRB Sevens World Series will generate massive international television coverage in many of our major tourism markets, including the UK, New Zealand, France, Japan, USA and Middle East.
"In the same way the World Cup has lifted the profile of Germany, international sporting events help to promote South Australia as a destination for overseas and interstate tourists.
"It also helps Adelaide to stamp its name as a venue for high-level sporting events. Adelaide Oval has a great reputation for hosting international events, such as the 2003 Rugby World Cup.

Australian Rugby Union chief executive and managing director Gary Flowers says rugby is a truly international sport with a passionate audience in 130 countries.
"The broadcast of Sevens reaches 150 million homes through 29 international broadcasters," he says.
"Adelaide will now be on a global stage with the likes of Hong Kong, Wellington, London and Dubai.
"Rugby Sevens is a highly charged, high energy, fast-paced game that is ideally suited to the vibrant cultural, celebratory and family orientation of South Australia and its government."
SA Rugby Union chief executive Rob Nelson thanked the Premier and State Government for its support for the event, which will help to build rugby's profile in the State.

- Adelaide was widely hailed as the success story of Rugby World Cup in 2003 when it sold-out two days at Adelaide Oval and contributed over $8m to the economy.
- Adelaide will feature on an 8-leg international calendar alongside the likes of London, Wellington, Hong Kong, Dubai and the USA.
- Since its inception in 1999, the IRB Sevens World Series has been played in 16 countries across 5 continents and 46 countries have participated.
- Adelaide will be 'paired' with Hong Kong, the longest running and most successful Sevens tournament which now boasts some e xtraordinary statistics, including an average 50% of tickets sold overseas with an average stay of 6-7 nights and average spend of approximately $1,700.
- Commercially, Wellington is the most successful tournament and it now contributes $6.8m to the local economy.
- Behind athletics, Rugby Sevens was the most sought-after ticket at the recent Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, attracting 150,000 spectators across 4 sessions of play at the Telstra Dome. Rugby Sevens is being considered for inclusion as an Olympic sport in 2012.
- The Adelaide Sevens would be held annually in April from 2007 - 2011 and will feature 16 teams playing 42 matches over two days - one every 22 minutes.
- The IRB Sevens World Series and Adelaide are a perfect fit.
- Much like the Clipsal 500 and the Tour Down Under, Sevens Rugby is fast and action-packed i.e. as much about the party and the entertainment as the sport.
- The Adelaide Sevens will significantly increase the profile of Rugby Union in South Australia and assist SA Rugby to continue to grow the game in South Australia, whichhas grown 60% in junior participation since the 2003 Rugby World Cup.
- The bid for this event was a joint initiative of Events South Australia (the major events division of the South Australian Tourism Commission), Australian Rugby Union and the South Australian Rugby Union.
Tregenza Showers
The vast majority of the cost of the showers has been donated to the club by Direct Interiors and others. Thanks to Mark Pickard and Direct Interiors and Callum Mackie of Waterpoof Plumbing who have been generous and done so much of this work in their own time. They have given up many weekends and nights. Also thanks to Ian Walker, Mark Sioisi and Rob Sadler for all their hard work on the showers, and also to John Absolom for being the only other bloke who showed up to help at the working bee! Thanks also to Gordon Hazzard for his generous contribution to the showers.

The President's Award
The President's Awards are vouchers from Athlete's Foot in Burnside; they are awarded every week to:
- the most valuable player from the four senior men's teams, as judged by the President ($25)
- the most valuable player from the women's team, as judged by the President ($20)
- the most valuable player from the junior teams, as judged by the Junior Rugby Director ($15)
These awards have been awarded to John Grime of the first grade (against Souths), Kristie Hume (against Burnside), Imogen Hume (against Souths) and Brad McDonald of the Under 18s (against Burnside).
13th May 2006: To Zoe Woodstock of the Women's Team, Richard Davies in the 2s and 3s, and James Wagstaff of the Under 16s.
27th May: Susan "Junior" Brooks of the Women's Team (great sidestep on Lee!), James Hall who played brilliantly in the 2s and then backed up for the 1s and Hugh Barret of the Under 14s.
"The Harrish"
The Harrish is awarded every week to the best First Grade player as judged by the Harrishes (team managers, Hamish Cranna and Harry Clark). It is a voucher for $50 to the excellent Mortar & Pestle Café (37 Dulwich Ave, Dulwich) which is run by our own ex-barman Lachy!

The College Cup
The College Cup is awarded at every home game to the best player from all grades, as judged by the Selectors. It is a $25 voucher from Champs Sports Store in Burnside Village. It also includes the right to drink from the pewter College Cup for the night. The first drink is on the
club; after that the winner's team-mates are expected to keep it full!
The Physio Direct Under 8's Encouragement Award
Thanks to our good friends at Physio Direct, a pair of club socks is presented to the Under 8 player of the week, as selected by their coach, the indominatable Trish Abbot.

Whilst details are currently being finalised the Bartercard Cup is likely to be run using a Cup & Plate knock-out format over 3 consecutive Friday evenings prior to Easter. Our Sevens team won all of their minor round games without ever looking very troubled. The 12 man squad consisted of Peter Cross, Michael Douglas, Andy Farquharson, John Grime, Ben Hamer, James Hopkins, Quentin Manuel, Ryan Neilsen, Lee Rebbeck, Charlie Sheppeard, Ben Suttell and Kini Tavui. Unfortunately, Hoppo and Kini both pulled hamstrings in the fourth game and left us without our speedsters out wide and we lost the semi-final to Burnside. Congratulations to Port Adelaide who beat Burnside in the final. SA Rugby is introducing a new 'sponsored' Pre-Season Competition to be known as the Bartercard Cup. Be Active Over-35's Rugby Series
Held every three weeks and played under Golden Oldies' rules the series is open to all those who want to get back and have some fun rugby on a regular basis.
More details will be available shortly.
Bartercard Cup
It will be a 15 a-side competition with each club able to field a 22 man squad. Games will be run in 2 x 30 minutes halves.
Further details will be circulated shortly.
All clubs are expected to participate in the Bartercard Cup, a new initiative designed to kick off 2006 with the aim of preparing and developing players, coaches and officials for the Premiership Season.

Congratulations to Christian Tedge and Candice Daniel on the recent birth of their daughter Charlotte Maggie Tedge, a sister for young Ryan. Charlotte came into this world at the hearty weight of nearly 9 pounds.
Tedgie and Candy breed 'em big! It has been suggested she looks just like her father, except with slightly more hair...
Amelia Kate Suttell was born yesterday (5/5/06) at 2.00pm. A future ladies half-back, weighing in at a lightweight 4lb 12oz.
