The Adelaide Black Falcons travelled to Darwin last week. They defeated NT, 32 - 5, and lost narrowly to Qld Country 13 - 11. The squad included our own Will Sadler. Good work, lads!
SOUTHERN WARRIORS 2011
The SA women's team was at Nationals in Brisbane in the first week of July. They defeated NT 31 - 22, and drew against Vic and ASRU (10 all, both games) but lost the final against ASRU for the Div 2 title, 24-3. The squad included our own Eloise Birch, Tara Naige, Danni DiGirolomo and Kim Evans - not to mention d'Arcy Sadler who was named as one of the stand out players of the whole tournament. Thanks also to Vic Ferguson who travelled with the team as the very busy and much appreciated physio!

On a sunny day Old Colls' went down the road to face the mighty Burnside. With a gentle slope against them the mighty warriors took up the challenge courageously but had to dig deep to fend off the home side for many minutes. Soon 3 tries were against them. The second half was better but despite valiant tackling, handling them down at crucial moments and we were beaten. Rest week this week. Many thanks to James for the wonderful oranges!

A depleted Vikings team, played with spirit with the help of James Gomersall and Cormack O'Brien who played for the oppo too. A lovely sunny day allowed the boys to run with confidence and did they run! I have probably missed names as the team sheet is not in front of me but special mention to Oscar Martin for his first try, Ed Badger back in the front row, Magnus for playing in multiple positions and Josh back from extended holiday. Bailey Wrightman has found his form and switched into high gear on the outside track. Keep it up it looked awesome. Burnside next week and then the fun starts. Presenting the ball in the ruck and possession need a lot of work this week at training and then who knows what might happen? Roll on the rest of the season!

A warm day greeted the intrepid wanderers as they warmed up in the glorious hills of the scenic wine growing area of the Barossa. A full squad plus more were met by a depleted 9 person squad for the Rams, depleted due to flu and being a new side. However their enthusiasm was great, and with the players lent to them the game carried on and much enjoyment was had as players were swapped around and the visitors stepped up their attacks. A flurry of tries and Conversions were scored by numerous players, including Ollie Horne and Liam and Charlie of note. The most enthusiastic person was George when playing for the Rams having been spurred on by the promise of $10 for the first person to score from the Rams. Oh, the lure of the dollar! The team is coming together nicely and off to the marauding Vikings for the next great encounter.

What a difference a couple of weeks makes for our Linden heroes. Despite Brighton front loading their B team with A team players, the boys in blue and red played hard and scored wonderful tries to capture this game and continue their heady progress in the under 12's competition. A try saving tackle in the freezing cold Friday night rugger delight by Bailey Clarke, capped off a memorable evening. Thanks to the reserve's who braved the cold waiting for their turn, Oscar and big Ed, the squad grows stronger each week. One could feel the palpable excitement of the boys as they relished this challenge. I felt it and I was 400km away! Roll on the Barossa, maybe the juggernaut of Old Coll's has now started its journey, hopefully not to be put off course.

The day was a grey dreary one and when the teams rolled for the match, despite all the optimism of the pre-season matches, this continued to be so. Brighton were well drilled, ruthless and with 9 substitutes took to the field and proceeded to hammer the Coll's team. The scoreline says it all. Despite this valiant efforts were made to contain the Brighton team and the boys had heart in their play. We can expect better as we know we have a talented team but playing against boys, who at 12 are bigger than most of parents would make most players struggle. This was a hard game to start with but we have learnt a lot from it.
